About Us

Our purpose
To foster a no-cost growing space for people of all abilities in greater Ann Arbor to share in, learn from, and enjoy the experience of community gardening as well as the healthful food that we grow.

Who we are
Breaking soil in the spring of 2010, the Better Together Garden is a brand-new addition to an array of inclusive recreation programming offered at The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living (AACIL). As a community garden comprised of mixed-height plots, four of which are easily accessible to wheelchair users, we welcome participants of all abilities.

What we do
After spring planting, we offer regularly-scheduled gardening workdays; a comprehensive set of classes on basic gardening skills, such as tool usage, amending soil, seed starting, vegetable care, and more; potlucks and other social events. As a community garden, we share the work of growing our food and we share the fruits of our labor.

How to get involved
There is no cost to become an AACIL gardener -- all you need to do is show up to one of our meetings, classes or workdays! Check our our "Events" page for more info or email cherri@aacil.org.
